From Laverne Galeener-Moore in e-mail to WINN-L list

Frances asked how I was related to the UNDERWOODs. My great-grandparents

were Willis UNDERWOOD and Margaret "Peggy" UNDERWOOD, man and wife and

first-cousins (so anytime I act like I have a screw loose I can blame it on

them <grin>). They had a 13th and final child, Emily, who was my

grandmother. Willis UNDERWOOD was the older brother of the George Washington

UNDERWOOD of the "Underwood War" in eastern Kentucky.

                (source: Laverne Galeener-Moore UNDERWOOD-L@rootsweb.com email Wed 10/29/2003 10:07 AM)

15 Sep 1936, Carter Co., KY - Deb UNDERWOOD was charged with "Maintaining a Nuisance." The

meaning of this is not clear, but whatever activities she was carrying on or supervising in her house were

definitely a 'nuisance' to her neighbors. (This Deborah would have been very old, probably in her

seventies or eighties, at this time)
