I'm a descendant of Dawsin &
Matilda Winn and their daughter Isadora (b. Feb. 12, 1858 d. Ap 13, 1939 in
Dallas, IA). She married in 1878 to George James Zech (8-2-1857
d.8-30-1896). They had 11 children, one of which was Ray Allen Zech (b.
9-25-1890 d. 1950 Knoxville, IA). Ray married Faye Anna Veach who had 6 boys
1 girl, one of which was my grandfather Wayne Mitchell Zech b. July 22, 1920
d. Sept. 10, 1997. We just got back from the funeral in Iowa. That's why
it's taken me so long to reply. We live in Colorado. We really love it here
but miss having family near by so we're moving back to Iowa in a couple
months. I'll be able to research my family a lot more there.
It's so interesting to find
people with the same heritage.
I found the graves of William
(Jan 1, 1869 - Apr 16, 1964) and James (Aug 1, 1885 - Mar 1, 1959)
Underwood. They are buried in Eureka Cem. Harvey, Iowa. I'm pretty sure
they're related to Matilda. Isadora moved to Iowa (after her dad remarried)
with her uncle Harrison Underwood...I'm sure he was her mother's brother.
They're probably Isadora's cousins or their children?.
Keep in touch,
Deonna

Gold Star Mother Passed Away
Isadore Winn daughter of Dawson
and Matilda Winn was born in Rochester, Minnesota, February 12 1858 and
departed this life at her home in Dallas, Iowa April 13, 1939 at the age of
81 years, 2 months and 1 day. She was the oldest of five children. All of
the others except one brother, Will Winn, of Coal Harbor, N.D. have preceded
her in death.
When at the age of 1 year, she
with her parents moved from Rochester, Minn. To Appleton, Wisconsin. There
they resided until 1865 when by way of covered wagon the family moved to a
farm near Appleton city, Missouri. At the age of 12 years her mother passed
away at which time she so patiently took up the duty of mothering her three
younger sisters and brothers. At the age of 18 her father married again and
she with her aunt and uncle Harrison Underwood came to Iowa, locating at
Washington. Two years later she was united in holy wedlock to George Zech of
that city. In 1880 they moved to a farm near Liberty Center where her
husband passed away. She then moved to Indiana and in the Year 1914 she
moved to Dallas to be near her children. Here she completed her very useful
Christian life.
Born to Mr. And Mrs. Zech were
eleven children, three of whom have preceded her in death. A sister Mrs.
Laura Allen, who had recently visited Mrs. Zech passed away just two weeks
ago.
She had lived in Dallas for a
great number of years, Although a partial invalid she had a wide circle of
friends and neighbors. Mrs. Zech gave two of her sons to the service of our
country during the World War one son returned and other son sleeps beneath
Foreign soil.
She therefore was a Gold star
mother of our community. She leaves to mourn their loss her children: Walter
of Otis, Colorado: Harry of Dallas, Iowa: Roy of Harvey, Iowa: Glenn of
Moville, Iowa: Mrs. Mae Hollingsworth of Ottumwa, Iowa: Mrs. Nora Hopkins of
Dallas: Mrs. Laura Nutter of Melcher: and Mrs. Ollie Booth of Leroy,
Minnesota.
She also leaves one brother,
three half sisters, two half brothers, 34 grand children and 37 great
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Zech will be sadly missed by
those who knew and loved her. Her loving way and Cheerful smile should be an
inspiration to everyone.
Funeral service was held from the
Dallas M. E. Church conducted by Rev. Azel Smith. Burial was in Hendrickson
Cemetery near Liberty Center.
The pall Bearers were: Robert
Hollingsworth, Harry Hollingsworth, Howard Zech, Vincent Nutter, Marvin Bell
and De Wyatt Rumbaugn.
