  • SERVICES MONDAY FOR GRANT ZECH Relatives and friends gathered in the First Presbyterian Church Monday to pay final tribute to Grant Herbert Zech 66 year old Yuma resident. Rev. Robert Miller officiated and interment was made in the Yuma Cemetery. Grant H. Zech, retired farmer of Yuma, passed away Friday afternoon, May 7, 1971 at the age of 66 years. He was born February 3, 1905 at Belleville, Kansas to Walter L. and Nora M. Zech, being the second of eleven children. Two sisters, one brother and his parents preceeded him in death. In 1915, the Zech family traveled by rail to Colorado and located on a farm in the New Haven Community. He attended Sunday School and Church as well as grade school at New Haven and graduated from Lone Star High School in 1925. He followed a farming career and was united in marriage to Velma L. Tribbett on May 12, 1930.

    Shortly thereafter they settled on a farm 19-1/2 miles northwest of Yuma in the Lone Star community. A daughter Marlene and a son Keith were born to this union. Grant and Velma remained on the farm until the fall of 1946 at which time they moved to a home in Yuma. During the time Grant was on the farm he served on the local school board and the Washington County High School Board. He was a charter member of the Yuma Lions Club. Although a man of few words, he had a quick wit which was enjoyed by all who knew him. He thoroughly enjoyed sports and was a avid outdoorsman, with a particular fondness for fishing. At the time of his death he was on a fishing trip accompanied by his dog "BO" who was his constant companion. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his Wife,Velma;son, Keith.his wife DeLoris and children Cynthia, Kevin, Grant and Doretta of Parkersburg, West Virginia; a daughter Marlene, her husband Donald and children, Tracy, Teri, Tami and Scott of Scotch Plains, New Jersey; brothers Roy of Denver and Harold of Roseburg, Oregon and Bill of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Sisters Edythe of Owosso, Michigan, Edna of Aurora, Jeanette of Bend Oregon and Bessie of San Antonio, Texas and many other relatives and a host of friends

    Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church on 10 May 1971 at 2:00 P. M. Services were lead by Rev. Robert Miller. Escorts were Grant A. Zech, Kevin Zech, Dean Bishop, Tom McCoy, Gerald Scott and Leland Peters.
